Package Itinerary

CLIMBING GUNUNG               ESSENTIAL INFORMATION

Gunung Ulu Sepat is one of the easier high mountains to climb. The starting point is from Kampung Rantau, the same as Gunung Chamah.

This mountain is remote and unknown to many people. It is located in Belum Forest (Hutan Belum). Any Malaysians will know that Hutan Belum is still virgin, untouched bythe outside world. If you are lost in this Hutan Belum, the nearest civilisation is 40/50 kilometers away and that's about 3 days of trek if you walked straight. In 1996, the total number of people summiting this mountain is still a double digit figure. Till now the number is still low, considering the inaccessible nature of that place.

There's abundant supply of flora, high in medicinal value. Aboriginal tribes, called Orang Asli still use this forest as a base for primary living. The only contact to the outside world is a 3 hours boat ride through Temenggur Lake (Tasik Temenggur).

Tasik Temenggur is formed when the government decide to built a dam on a Temenggur River in 1970s. As a result, the forest submerged in water to form the lake. Even now, we can see most of the dead tree coming out of the water, still standing proud. This lake has been a main transport system for the Orang Asli, linking Grik to Pos Kemar

Meet at Grik, continue journey to Pengkalan Trojan for a two hour boat ride to Pos Kemar. From there, it is a 30 minute 4WD ride to Kampung Rantau. There, there is a big hut specially made for trekkers to spend the night.

 Day one

The first day will take you across some rubber plantations and some "dusun" (fruit orchard)   like areas, not much uphill or too steep climbs.  The first campsite is about 3-4 hours trekking, and can be reached for lunch.

Day two
The second day will be tougher, because the trek will be only uphill, flattening only at the peak. However it will only take probably about 6 hours to climb.  Water will also have to be carried up, so plan carefully. The peak is rather small , but can fit about 10 - 15 people. There is a lone tree standing at the campsite where people tend to hang their messages. This peak is also rather unique as sometimes elephants climb it. I

Day three
The third day is relatively moderate, and will be able to make it to Kampung Rantau byevening.
