The original landscape was an overexploited tract of
unproductive hilly slope. A desire to rehabilitate
and conserve leads to development of a realistic and
viable green environment. While pine trees are
adopted as the canopy cover, the rest of the
landscaping includes local species, such as the
native cabbage and yellow lily plant; are laid out
as shrubs and ground cover. This is a private effort
to increase the biodiversity of Kundasang given its
unique geography and climate.

Kinabalu Pine Resort
Kundasang, Ranau, Sabah, Malaysia
The
Kinabalu National Park is one of the
greatest attractions of Sabah. Within its boundaries
are found lowland rainforest of the tropical zone at
its lower level, the montane oaks and fig trees, the
rhododendron shrubs and wild berries of the
temperate zone at its medium level, and the conifers
an other alpine-like associations of the summit zone
at its upper level.
Mt. Kinabalu,
at 4,095 m is South East Asia's highest peak, and
the focal point of Sabah's oldest park. 90 km and
two hours drive from Kota Kinabalu, along good
sealed roads, lie the Park Headquarters, at an
elevation of 1500m on the southern boundary. The
mountain itself was formed less than 1 million years
ago, when a hard granite plug (a plutonic rock)
forced its way upwards through the overlying
sandstone rocks and shales of the Crocker Range.
Gale-force winds and torrential rains eroded away
the softer sedimentary rocks before the coming of
the Ice-Age that carved the jagged granite peaks and
precipices above the smoothed Summit Plateau
Here in the Kinabalu
Park, preserved for posterity is one of the worlds
most unique ecological
systems having beauty,
splendor and charm to delight any category of
visitors from the tired businessman in need of a
rest to the restless mountaineer and the nature
lover who is eager to study and enjoy natural
treasures. |
