To Remain as it is.it is a natural Beauty Spot(Dont Spoil it. I was stationed at 19 Field Ambulanceon 1n 1952 which was on the Kamunting Road and as a young man we used to go up at a fast pace carrying our kit, it was like running up it. But I have very Fond Mements of Maxwell hill.I know that I am an outsider, and it has got nothing to do with me. it was just a thought, such a Beautiful Place Could you please tell me if the Federation Regiment is still in Taiping. Why I ask--To me they were the next best thing to the Guards Regiment on Parade they were Perfect. James Butterfield

Let it remain a natural hill resort. Mega developement is a definite NO.What it needs is some improvements on its facilities and new four wheel-drives.

C.E.Jones<cejones@pop.myweb.com.my>

God forbid they build a Casino there. It must remain as a natural Hill Resort - properly mantained.

Johnson Lee<johnsonlsn@usa.net>

It will be really great if Bukit Larut can remain as a natural hill resort.

Remain as a natural hill resort Update with new technology Advertisement in TV & newspapers to all over the world for tourist attraction.

Y.O. Chee<yochee@asiaonline.net>

We need to protect what we have environmentally and this includes keeping Maxwell Hills as a natural hill resort. Each time when I return to my hometown for a visit, I always enjoy the ride or hike up the hills. It would be a shame to spoil it with "pollution" of all kinds like casino, hotel etc. What should be done is improvement and maintenance on the present facilities like better heating for the rooms, hot water for showers, cleaner toilets, more flowers from temperate countries, better telescopes and other user friendly services. Providence of barbecue sites and barbecue food packs etc. could also bring additional income for the management. There must be people in Taiping who could provide ideas to improve the resort but still keeping it natural. Why not send out an advertisement to all the secondary schools and ask for a competition in ideas for example? OR why not put an advertisement in the newspaper for ideas? Like all others before me, I hope Taiping people will not allow Maxwell Hills to be desecrated in the name of money- making or modern development.

I enjoyed my childhood in Taiping. Great town. I would really love to see Bukit Larut as a natural hill resort. No big roads, no 800 room hotels and please no casino or discos. Hope all of us will help in keeping Bukit Larut as it is.

I did a jungle trek up Maxwell Hill in 1952! I was 18 years old and my father was Deputy Commissioner for Prisons and resident in Taiping. The bash was organised to search for terrorists said to be lurking on the hill. We were to be going up with the Gurkhas and taking several "it and trained" civilians - I was fit and my father said I was trained !!! But I was not provided with a firearm as this was not allowed under the Emergency regulations. So I borrowed a firearm from Mrs Smith, wife of Capt Smith.

I did the bash despite the laughter at my sidearm as it was a ladies .22 six shoot pistol that weighed in at about an ounce - and I only had 3 rounds!! However, I had the last laugh as at the end of the day when exhaustion set in - I carried my "firearm" without feeling it while others groaned under the weight of Brens, rifles, and a few Thompsons. Trek again? Like a shot!!
