INTRODUCTIONWading Birds

Located in Kuala Langat District in the State of Selangor, Paya Indah Wetlands covers an area of 3,100 hectares, encompassing a myriad of ecosystems, namely degraded ex-tin mining land and peat swamp forest.  Ever since tin and sand mining was stopped in 1997, Paya Indah begun to recover and is now blossoming into a wonderful site for nature which future generations will inherit.  Paya Indah will showcase Malaysia's efforts towards achieving environmentally sound development in tourism, restoration of degraded areas and conservation of natural resources.

Paya Indah Wetlands is approximately 3100ha and lies adjacent to Putrajaya (Malaysia's administrative capital), the Multimedia Super Corridor (MSC) and is minutes away from the Kuala Lumpur International Airport (KLIA) and the Formula 1 & Grand Prix circuit.

Paya Indah has remarkable natural resources and a splendid natural setting. Since its inception (ca.1998) Paya Indah has experienced an approximately 30% increase in its wildlife population.

Paya Indah has its own fascinating geography, which consists of peat swamps, and large ex-tin mining lakes. Paya Indah is very education centered whilst undertaking sustainable eco-tourism activities. It portrays Malaysia's commitment to preserving and the wise-use of wetlands. Thus the development of Paya Indah is guided bytwo main principles, i.e.

That the sum of activities undertaken at Paya Indah will inspire visitors to assist in reversing wetland loss

That the activities proposed will improve the nett state of the wetlands environment whilst facilitating human development.

As we are currently scheduled to open to the public October 2001 we welcome you to take a few minutes to discover in the next few pages more about our fascinating sanctuary. .
