Our Survivor Island Game was invented, byus wearing our sadistic hats,

for Corporate Teambuilding. However it has occurred to us that older children would

love to play. So we welcome any schools or clubs as well. We can make it as

difficult or as easy as anyone would like and trip organisers are welcome to get

involved with the clue making in order to cover any subjects important to your staff, students or members.

Why is Pulau Sembang the perfect island?

An uninhabited island, two thirds of which is relatively flat with a large beach and Catching a tiddler.JPG (524665 bytes)one third a large steep hill joined bya small ridge of jagged rocks. The rocks are useful for line fishing.

The island can be circumnavigated byfoot, with a good pair of

trainers, and is covered in coconut palms and dense shrubs.

It is surrounded byshallow waters and mostly dead coral.

The dead coral not teeming with life is the reason nobody goes

 there.

Driftwood, old fishing nets, rope, plastic buoys and other useful materials can be found washeScavenging.JPG (607889 bytes)d up on shore for scavengers in search of both building and fire material.

How does the Survivor Island Game work?

Cooking
Lunch

  • On arrival at Sea Gypsy Village teams are chosen, usually about 6 to a team depending on the size of the group.

  • Various team games are then played for the rest of the day in order to promote team bonding.

  • After dinner teams gather for an underwater slide show and briefing for the following day. Players are warned that clues are already being given for the following days tasks!

  • After a very early breakfast players are taken byboat to Sembang Island. Each player is checked to make sure they have nothing (and we mean nothing, except maybe a camera) with them.

  • Each team is provided with: a parang (very large Malaysian knife used for cutting through the jungle), a 25 litre can of water, a flint with magnesium edge, a cooking pot, half a bag of rice, some fishing line, a hook & sinker and a tiny fish.

  • The Sea Gypsy supervisors take: extra water, waterproof matches, torches, comprehensive first aid kit, sun screen, insect repellant (and of course a picnic basket!).

Chopping logs.JPG (738598 bytes)Teams are then given a series of tasks to complete such as:

  • Build a shelter

  • Light a fire

  • Find food

  • Cook lunch

Cooking the tiddler.JPG (150365 bytes)

After lunch and a rest from the mornings labours the game continues with some of the following:

  • Map reading with a compass

  • Clue solving

  • Scavenger hunt

  • Team games

Once all the tasks are complete the camp is cleaned up and the survivors are taken back

to Sea Gypsy for a well earned drink and a nice shower. Then it's straight to the conference

room for a debriefing. Teams give their view of the day and what they gained from it. The

Sea Gypsy Team then give an appraisement of each team and award prizes. Each player

is also given a sheet explaining the tips, clues and objectives to give them something to

think about on the journey home. The whole day is then topped off with an excellent BBQ.

Sea Gypsy Village Resort & Dive Base, Pulau Sibu, Malaysia.

 The above program is one of the many that we can offer.;
